Your business name is missing.

Most free invoice tools hand you an American looking template and let you type a number into a box marked tax. That is fine until you bill a client in another country and quietly produce an invoice that is not valid: a missing VAT number, no sequential invoice number, or 19 percent added to a sale where the buyer was supposed to account for it.

This one starts from where you invoice from. That sets the currency, the tax name and rate, the date format and the fields the tax authority actually requires. As you type, the invoice renders on the right and a short check tells you what is still missing or worth a second look, with a link to the rule it came from.

No account, no subscription, and your invoice data never reaches a server.

How it works

  1. Pick where you invoice from

That single choice sets the currency, the tax name and rate, the date format and the fields your invoice legally needs. A UK VAT invoice and a US invoice are not the same document.

  2. Fill in the details

Seller, client, line items. The invoice renders on the right as you type, so you are reading the finished document the whole time rather than a form.

  3. Read the check

A short list tells you what is missing or worth a second look: tax number, sequential numbering, and whether a cross border sale changes who accounts for the tax.

  4. Download the PDF

An A4 PDF you can send straight to the client or hand to your accountant. No account, no subscription, and nothing was uploaded.

What each country actually requires

The rules differ more than most templates admit. These are the published requirements each preset is built from.

Where invoices go wrong

Almost none of these are about design. They are about the fields a tax authority looks for, and a generic template has no way to know which ones apply to you.

  • No tax number on the invoice

In the UK, Germany, Türkiye, Canada and Australia the buyer generally cannot reclaim the tax without your registration number on the document.

  • Invoice numbers that skip

Several countries require an unbroken sequence. Jumping from 006 to 011 is the kind of thing that turns a routine inspection into a longer one.

  • Tax added on a reverse charge sale

Sell B2B across an EU border and the buyer accounts for the VAT, not you. Adding it anyway means an invoice your client cannot use and money you have to refund.

  • Missing supply date

The UK and Germany want the date the goods or service were supplied when it differs from the invoice date.

  • Client address left out

Optional on a US invoice, expected on a European one.

  • The wrong currency or date format

Small, but it is what makes an invoice read as foreign and get queried instead of paid.

Why this asks where you invoice from before anything else

Every other field depends on that answer. A US invoice needs a name, an address, a number and a total, and there is no federal format at all. A UK or German invoice is a legal document with a list of mandatory contents, and if one is missing the buyer may not be able to reclaim the tax. So the country is not a formatting preference here, it is the rule set. Switching it changes the tax rate, the label on the tax number field, the date format, and which checks run. That is also why every preset carries a link to the authority it was built from and the date it was last read: rules move, and a tool that does not say where its numbers came from is asking you to take its word for it.
